Why is the noun syllabus stressed on the first syllable but the noun occúrrence on

ich benötige dringend eine Antwort zu folgender Frage: Why is the noun syllabus stressed on the first syllable but the noun occúrrence on the second syllable?

In Kapitel 6ff. von Hammond: The Phonology of English findest du sicherlich eine Erklärung dafür...

Könnte nicht auch folgende Erklärung stimmen:
Some languages have predictable stress placement, for example, stress is almost always placed on the first syllable of a word in Czech, on the next to last syllable in Welsh and on the last syllable in French. The placement of words stress in English, however, is generally not predictable. This is mainly due to the fact that English has borrowed a large number of words from a multitude of languages in the course of its history. Word stress can even be distinctive in English, i.e. there are a number of minimal pairs that differ by stress pacement only: for example, the word import is a noun when the stress is oin the first syllable but a verb when the stress is on the second syllable.

Mit dem Buch komme ich nicht weiter, tut mir leid, danke für die Antwort trotzdem, aber irgendwie ist das alles für mich fachchinesisch, ich hab da nicht so den draht zu obwohl ich mich echt bemühe.

Hast du schon einmal in ein Einführungsbuch zur anglistischen Sprachwissenschaft oder speziell zur englischen Phonologie geschaut (z.B. diese hier)? Darin sollte sich auf jeden Fall etwas zur Betonung im Englischen finden.
